cNw Electric Start Conversion
I am currently sold out of the kit. Unfortunatley, the company that has been making these kits in the past is unable to do that any longer due to the work load they are experiencing with their main line items. I thought they would be able to supply me another batch in December/January, that was ordered May of 2024, but it did not happen.
That said, since that time I am actively setting up 2 separate machine shops to take care of the new production. One of them is running materail cost quotes and is ready to start making fixtures and tooling as soon as we know those costs. This shop, Damtech, I have worked with for 20+ years and he makes a lot of my current parts like triple trees, rear sets, intakes, head steadies, clutches and much more. Really great quality shop that is semi local to me and owner/operator set up. He will be making all the billet aluminum parts for the kit.
For the remainder of the parts, which are all the gears, I am still reviewing a couple of shops.
While this has certainly caused some issues since I have essentailly been without any e-start kits since December and plenty of people wanting one. I am pushing forward in order to finish these next production runs so I can once again have stock on hand to supply to anyone wanting one of these great e-start kits.
Due to materail cost increase since the last batch was made, there will most likely be a increase in the final cost on these new kits but I will do everything I can to keep that at a minimum.
Again, my apologies for this lag in availability. I was caught off guard and its taking a bit longer to set everything up than I was anticipating.

Update 01/09/2026. I have decided on the two machine shops that will be making the parts for the kits moving forward. One that will be making the billet parts, as mentinoed above and the other will make all the gears.
I have secured all the extra parts (over run) that the old machine shop had. These will be here mid January. I can then fill in what I need in order to complete and these kits will take care of all those that pre ordered kits and have been waiting patiently
The new machine shops still have to make some fixtures, purchase tooling and write CNC machine programs. I expect to have kits available early to mid spring.
Final pricing has yet to be determined on the new kits

- CNC billet aluminum inner primary. Precision cut 6061 billet to ensure highest quality, tightest tolerances and best possible finish
- The kit includes a complete belt drive system with a hardened clutch center
- Belt drive uses a narrow (21mm) Gates, Poly Carbon belt
- Front sprocket is made from S7 tool steel for superior strength and wear characteristics
- Clutch basket is made from 6061 billet aluminum for strength and weight savings. Hard anodized finish
- Starter system is completely driven by precision cut gears
- Front drive gear is made from S7 tool steel to ensure longevity without any reduction in performance
- All other gears are made from 4340 steel and will be cut to AGMA class 10 or 11 specs
- High output, solenoid operated starter motor. Proven design used on large displacement V-Twins and Diesel applications
- Sealed bearings are used throughout
- System is designed to use a stock Lucas type alternator
- Easy and straight forward installation with all hardware, wiring and gaskets included
- 3 different finishes to integrate with the rest of your machine
- The kit can be used both on a Positive ground machine or a Negative ground machine
- Kit includes a starter switch and all wiring to hook it up to your bike
- The major components are all made in the USA by STS in Jacksonville, Florida
Important Notes:
- The kit will not fit on a 1975 MkIII machine as a replacement for the original
- The kit will not fit the early Commandos that have the points pod behind the timing cover
- The kit will not allow you to use the stock Amal air filter. An efficient air filter replacement is available
- The kit does not include a battery. A larger than stock version is needed in order to turn the engine over
- The kit does not include an alternator. Be sure the one that is usedwill keep the battery fully charged, especially if running lights on at all times.
- The kit does not include a clutch stack. We do recommend a Barnett type clutch. Bronze plates should not be used.
- The kit does not include an outer primary cover. Your stock one will fit
- The parts above not included in the kit are all available separately listed below if you need them
- Polish is a show polish. High luster and a bit sensitive like all polished alloys.
- Satin is a tumble finish with a silver appearance. Very durable and nice looking

A complete electric start system that fits your Pre MkIII (1970-1974) Commando. We designed this so that it is a straight forward installation that requires no modifications to your existing machine. It uses a stock type alternator so that you are not forced to use one that is supplied by us. The clutch basket is made to work with a std Commando type clutch stack. The starter itself is solenoid operated wich means that it is not engaged with the system when the bike is running. So in case of a backfire or kick back, the gear set would just free wheel and the starter would not be damaged. We use the best possible material when manufacturing this system to ensure longevity and performance over time
